Christmas Message

One Christmas story that has always fascinated me is the visit of the wise men (Matthew 2:1–12). Matthew’s omission of many details (like where they came from or how many there were) has led to the embellishment of the story. However, what is clear is that these wise men began their journey after recognizing a star which announced the birth of the king of the Jews.

After a long and demanding journey, they arrived in Jerusalem up to two years later. However, no one there was aware of this newborn king. Imagine their confusion and disappointment. Had they misunderstood the star? Had the journey been pointless? Would its purpose ever be fulfilled?

Those same questions resonate with our Simply Mobilizing journey. Have we truly understood what it means to partner with God in mobilizing churches to place His mission at the centre of all they do? Has our long journey been worthwhile? Will our vision of seeing God’s people living fully on mission with Him ever be realized?

After receiving further guidance, the wise men continued on to Bethlehem where Joseph, Mary and Jesus were living in a house. On the way there God confirmed their direction. The star miraculously reappeared and led them to the correct house. Guidance came not while they stood still, but as they continued in faith.

In the same way, I believe Simply Mobilizing is drawing close to a significant moment as we approach the end of 2025. We may not yet see the full fulfilment, but it is time to move forward in faith — trusting God to confirm that we are partnering with Him in raising up a movement of churches and individuals living on mission with God, far beyond what we once imagined.
