The Simply Mobilizing Latin America Regional Conference: Building a Mobilization Movement (A New Paradigm for Global Mission)
Hugo MatosDecember 2024
On November 8-9, Simply Mobilizing Latin America (SMLA) held its much-anticipated Regional Conference, a virtual event that brought together nearly 350 participants registered from various parts of the world. What unfolded during those two days not only marked a milestone in mobilization history but also ignited a renewed passion in the hearts of those seeking to actively engage in God’s mission. Here is how this Conference is leaving an indelible mark on the global movement.
The Power of Unity and Mission
From the moment Ricardo Kim, originally from South Korea and now a leader in Guatemala, opened the Conference by emphasizing the importance of global unity in God’s mission, it was clear this event would be extraordinary. Worship sessions led by teams from Mexico, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic reminded us that, though physically apart, we are one in Christ. Geof Gunton’s reflection on John Mark challenged us to be like Barnabas—offering second chances and building up leaders in the global mission.
A transformative moment was Max Chismon’s presentation on Mobiology, an innovative theology that mobilizes every believer to live on mission with God. His call to equip 700 million believers in 5 million local churches resounded powerfully. This concept not only complements traditional missiology but also activates workers to fulfill the Great Commission in our generation.
International Workshops That Made a Difference
Experts from various regions led profound workshops, fostering innovative strategies and collaborations:
1. James Quisquirin (Southeast Asia): Presented Empowered to Influence, a resource designed to mobilize Christians in their workplaces as salt and light.
2. Jason Selvaraja (South Asia): Proposed a paradigm for North Indian churches to send missionaries to South India and nearby regions.
3. Jay Ryu (East Asia): Emphasized the importance of mobilizing Asians in Latin America to carry the gospel back to their nations.
4. Keith Koster (Southern Africa): Addressed the transformation of local churches into missional communities that disciple and multiply churches.
5. Lorna Johnston (North America): Highlighted the need for strong teams, relationships with pastors, and personalized pathways for mobilization.
6. Noemi Marques (Latin America): Taught on mobilizing new generations, with specific strategies for each group.

Tangible Impact and New Connections
The Conference was not just theoretical—it was actionable. Here are some of the most notable outcomes:
• Strengthening weak nations: Key connections with strategic leaders in countries with limited mobilization.
• Global vision: Leaders from Israel, Iraq, and other nations joined to explore new mission opportunities.
• Reactivation of mobilizers: Testimonies of individuals renewing their commitment with fresh enthusiasm.
• Youth mobilization: Workshops like Noemi Marques’ emphasized integrating new generations into the mission.
A Promising Future
This Conference was more than an event—it was a catalyst for a movement that seeks to transform local churches into missional communities ready to reach the nations. From the impact of strategic workshops to the introduction of new resources like the Interface program and the School for Mobilizers, it is clear that the future of mobilization is filled with hope and purpose.
